Basically the larger the marquee area, the larger the price will be. For example a 6m x 6m marquee is a great small marquee for an intimate event at home that will hold 30 - 40 people. A small marquee like this starts around $900. If you want to have a large wedding with 150 guests seated, a bar area and a dance floor you will need a marquee between 200m2 and 300m2. Our 10m wide structural marquees are modular and can extend to be 30m long - and much longer if you cant keep the guest list down. A large 300m2 marquee will cost around $5,850. Commonly your marquee order will include a delivery charge in addition to the hire price. Delivery charges vary and depend on the location and size of the marquee.
When choosing the right size marquee for a 50 person event there a couple of important considerations. Firstly do you want to seat your guests for a meal, seat them for a presentation or will they be standing around mingling. Also do you need space for a bar, stage or dance floor.
For a simple sit down meal for 50 people the smallest marquee you could consider is a 6m x 9m Clear Span Structure. Generally we find people like to go up a size or two from the smallest option to ensure more space and comfort for their guests. More common sizes for a sit down event for 50 would be 10m x 9m or 6m x 15m. A similar size (6m x 9m) is required to host a presentation for 50 people with a small stage and podium. With a cocktail style event either a 6m x 9m or 6m x 12m marquee is appropriate.
The short answer is yes - but like all short answers, it's important to read the slightly longer answer. Marquees in Melbourne can be set up on grass and on solid surfaces like concrete, asphalt and on tennis courts. They can be set up on stages, roof tops and even over the top of swimming pools. They can be set up on uneven ground but where possible seek a flat and level space. Typically a marquee installed on a private property for a private event does not need a council permit (this does vary council to council and may depend on the size of the marquee you are installing). Most councils require permits to put a marquee anywhere in a public space.
If it is public land a council permit is likely to be required for a marquee. Find out if the marquee can be pegged or due to restrictions may require either water weights or steel weights. What security will there be on-site if the marquee is set up the day before the event or taken down the day after to avoid damage? When can the marquee be set up and pulled down?
